WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE

We strive to be a compassionate community, that welcomes all, grows in faith, cares for one another, and serves our local community and world.

COMMUNITY DRIVEN

Stemming from a rich history of service to others, here at FPC Wausau, we place a strong emphasis on mission and outreach.

We serve our local community with a twice-monthly food pantry and a weekly Sunday Community Supper. Each year, our church hosts the Friends' Dinner, a tradition that began over 50 years ago. Well over 500 meals are served to the community on Thanksgiving Day.

The Wausau Free Clinic of First Presbyterian Church opened in 2018 in partnership with the Catholic Charities Warming Center. This clinic, which was the vision of local physician Dr. Jeff Oswald, serves our community by providing free urgent and ongoing medical care to low income, uninsured, and underinsured persons.

In 2023 the Free Clinic moved into its new home in the Community Partners Campus on Grand Avenue in Wausau. We recently hired a full-time coordinator and are now able to expand our services to more individuals.

We support the NAOMI Project that seeks solutions to chronic social issues. We provide volunteers and meals to the Wausau Community Warming Center. Additionally, we purchase school supplies and warm clothing for the local schools.

We are a Matthew 25 Church, a program of our denomination, and through it, we are committed to dismantling structural racism, eradicating systemic poverty, and building congregational vitality.

Over the years, we have had the opportunity to serve many refugee families resettling in our community. In 2022 we partnered with the group New Beginnings to welcome refugee families by providing financial assistance, personal relationships, and support as they adjust to life in the U.S. In early 2023 we donated a room in the lower level of the church for New Beginnings to set up their household goods pantry. Twice a month the pantry is open to the refugee families to come in for needed items.

We are an open and affirming congregation, welcoming into fellowship any who are looking for a safe space to worship, grow in faith, and serve. We are members of Covenant Network of Presbyterians and More Light Presbyterians, two organizations that work for the full inclusion and participation of LGBTQIA+ individuals in the life, leadership, and work of the Church.

The unifying thread of our church life is mission work – carrying out the work of Christ in the world and reaching out in love to others.
